Middle Leadership Starter Kit
It has been said that Middle Leaders or Middle Managers are the glue that holds the organization together: they work very closely with the teachers and students in their area on a daily basis, know what motivates them and are the drivers of performance. The Middle Leadership Starter Kit is a 2 day course suitable for Middle Leaders of all levels of experience and will be tailored to the specific needs of the school or the course participants.

Heads of Department/Faculty, Assistant Heads of Department/Faculty, Curriculum Coordinators, Heads of
Year, those aspiring to Head of Department roles, recent appointees to any leadership role.
Programme content
Participants will:
- Reflect on their own experiences as a Middle Leader and determine those areas of their own performance that need improvement
Schools will then be able to tailor their course slightly according to their needs, by choosing topics from the following areas:
- Learn the importance of influencing others and delegating according to need and the aptitudes of their team
- Explore the difference between being a Leader and being a Manager
- Be apprised of the roles and responsibilities typically associated with being a Middle Leader
- Identify sound systems for Performance Management and target setting to improve personal productivity, classroom practice and student achievement
- Practice aspects of personal and professional time management
- Understand how to create a culture of high performance and
- accountability
- Learn the basic principles of coaching and mentoring
- Practise the skills of effective written communication
- Learn how to use departmental evaluation to make a positive contribution to the school’s overall Self Evaluation Form
- Practice the techniques for running a time-bound yet effective departmental meeting
