Assessment for Learning
"If assessment is to be a positive force in education, it must be implemented properly. It cannot be used to merely sort students or to criticise. Its goals must be to improve education." (Lockwood & McLean). This workshop examines reliable, easily planned alternatives to the culture of ‘test, test, test’ without creating more work.

Programme content
Depending on length, participants could:
- Decide what effective assessment looks and sounds like
- Learn how Assessment for Learning is different from Assessment of Learning
- Examine how Assessment for Learning strategies can enable students, increase motivation, engage learners of all abilities, lead to higher achievement, improve relationships and increase teacher satisfaction
- Devise assessment tasks based on AfL principles suitable for classroom use
Course duration
Half or Full day
Note: This course can be extended to include a session for
- Parents on the advantages of AfL techniques for enhancing the learning, achievement and enjoyment of their children.
- Individual teachers or teams of teachers in one subject specialty in planning and following through an actual AfL task with a group of students.
