Teaching beyond the Textbook: Problem Solving and Enquiry-Based Learning

This workshop will demonstrate how to turn textbook information into a problem-solving activity incorporating teamwork, independent learning and opportunities for assessment at all levels.

Who would benefit

Teachers of Grades K – 12, Senior Staff, Heads of Faculty, School or Department, Principals

Participants will:

  • Understand why enquiry-based learning is deeper and lasts longer
  • Learn the basic components of enquiry-based learning
  • Explore the application of higher level thinking skills
  • Master the design of problem solving tasks that bring school textbooks alive

Course Duration

Half day

Extension:  For schools that are very keen to embed the culture of Enterprise and Active Learning, we can offer a practical session involving 50 – 80 students linking a number of cross-curricular areas including the environment, performing arts, health education, business development and cultural awareness. These sessions can be a half or full day workshop, depending on need and age of students. Suitable for Grades 7 – 11 and all curricula.
