Child Protection: What does it mean for a School in the UAE?

This workshop is aimed at all staff who work with children in schools. The session aims to enhance awareness of the reasons why safeguarding should underpin every aspect of a school’s work. We can offer on-site induction or refresher training for whole staff sessions, discrete groups including those with pastoral responsibility, newly qualified teachers, senior staff and those who run extra-curricular activities. All workshops are contextualized to fit UAE legislation and/or guidance on the safeguarding of children.

Teachers of Grades K – 12, Senior Staff, Heads of Faculty, School or Department, Principals, Counsellors, Activities Coordinators, School Nurse

Programme content

Depending on length, participants could:

  • Understand why child protection is the responsibility of all staff in collaboration with a number of other stakeholders
  • Learn how to recognize symptoms of abuse, neglect, bullying and low self-esteem in students, and how this may differ according to race, culture and gender
  • How to deal appropriately with disclosures
  • Learn to whom to make a referral and how this should be done
  • Learn how to assess risk in carrying out their professional duties

Course duration

Half or Full day

Note:  This course can be extended to include a session for

  • Parents on recognising when their child might be the victim of bullying, the forms bullying may take and strategies for dealing with it
  • Individual teachers or teams of teachers responsible for organising school trips who need to be more fully conversant with sound risk assessment procedure
