Disaffection is often a rational response on the part of students to particular conditions in classrooms rather than simply a general disposition to deviate from acceptable norms of behaviour. This workshop will give teachers a ‘toolkit’ to help student disaffection in their classroom.

Who would benefit

Participants will:

  • Understand why rewards and punishments are only temporary reprieves
  • Develop a range of strategies to counter disaffection in particular classroom situations
  • Understand how Assessment for Learning can contribute to a student’s perception of success
  • Learn how to work together with school staff and other agencies (such as ADEC) to effect positive change in disaffected students
