Leading Reading

Leading reading

This is a course for all teachers who require students to access the written word. It examines the barriers that inhibit reading and access to information, tactics people use to avoid reading if they have difficulty with it, and provides some strategies for overcoming these. The course also examines the importance of teachers being aware of individual Reading Ages and how they must link this to readability measures in material given to students. There is a look at the differences between skimming and scanning, reading for purpose, inference and the detection of bias.

This is a highly practical course that runs over two days. Delegates are encouraged to try out strategies with students between one session and the next and to report their findings. It is delivered in English so candidates need to have good written and spoken English to access the course fully. It can be delivered to individual schools on site or groups of teachers at our Al Ain centre. In both cases a minimum of 10 teachers are required.
